Business as mission is a strategy for the specific purpose of the transformation of people and communities: spiritually, economically and socially – for the glory of God, through a viable and sustainable business which has Kingdom of God values, purpose, perspective and impact.

Business as a Calling Conference
I'm going to a
Business as a Calling conference for a few days the day after Halloween in
Toronto Ontario where I'll be attending seminars on being "A Venture Christian in a Capitalist World", "How I Got My Start in Business", "Business People Need Pastors and Pastors Need Business People", and "Seven Things Young Adults Need to Know About Money." The conference is put on by
MEDA, the Mennonite Economic Development Associates, who provide access to savings and credit for the poor.
I'll be sleeping in my Jeep; unless anyone out there knows a place I can stay in Toronto.

A few financial principles to think about.
Make your money work for you. Don't trade time for money. Linear income is a dead end. Buy modes of passive income. Income that doesn't require you to be in the picture. Don't do "bad debt." Don't buy depreciating assets (things that go down in price) using credit. Own your home, don't pay rent. It is possible to own for the same amount each month. Setup your own business. Incorporate yourself. Create jobs, pay less tax. Pay for good advise. Don't listen to poor friends' free bad advise. Make your investments automatic. Use direct deposit, automatic deduction, and automated bill payment from your bank. Build your financial IQ: accounting, investing, marketing and law. Take a class, check with your Chamber of Commerce.Never carry credit card debt. Pay off your card every month. Cut them up if necessary.Buy less stuff. Keep a journal of Everything you spend money on.

Philanthropy as a beginning and a means, not just an end.
For ages power and influence has been built using financial principles and methods of accounting, business, and marketing. When combined in the right fashion these disciplines develop a synergy that can create and build wealth. Traditionally this wealth creation has been directed to individual wealth building and creating a legacy for one's family. While this goal is not necessarily wrong, I believe it is short sighted.
These same principles can be applied to the non-profit arena and Christian organizations, an area that is in great need of financial assistance, to form great results. The non-profit Christian organizational need for finance assistance is so great and the tools currently lacking so, that even a small injection of simple financial principles can have outputs that are magnified many time over their input.
The tool of financial wisdom can also be used for social benefit on a personal level. Working directly with people and communities in need business and economic principles can become a stepping stone into an economically sustainable future for many struggling families.
The "good" that wealth can be used for can be found as a beginning and a means instead of an end. It is possible to give first instead of giving back at the end of one's life.
This is my belief. This is my call.
